Focal Cutaneous Mucinosis

Cutaenous mucinoses are uncommon skin disorders caused by mucin in the skin or hair follicle.

Slide 1: 45 year-old man with a white papule on his shin. R/O Scar.
Slide 2: The biopsy shows prominent mucin deposition within the dermis.
Slide 3: The differential diagnosis is with a myxoma.  Given the morphology as pools of mucin with concomitant hypocellularity it would be more in keeping with focal cutaneous mucinosis.
